Abstract
Self-assembly of the sidewall functionalized single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) has been performed on Ag surfaces. The covalently functionalized SWNTs with benzoic acid moieties are prepared via diazonium reactions from 4-aminobenzoic acid and isoamyl nitrite. Raman, infrared, thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) data, and solubility increase of SWNTs have indicated the modification of the sidewall of SWNTs. The functionalized SWNTs appeared to be assembled on Ag surfaces through the carboxylate group as evidenced from the emerging νs(COO-) peak at ∼ 1380 cm- 1.
