Abstract
Non-illuminated metal surfaces was shown to surface away from the periodically arranged holes shine into the far-field. As such, the 'radiating SP mode', which was essentially the half wavelength standing wave as an extremely efficient mode of transmission was identified. The dominance of this mode was a direct consequence of the constructive interference of multiply Bragg scattered surface plasmons and explains much of the previously debated puzzles.
