Abstract
The photonic bandedge lasers were investigated in a square lattice of air holes in free-standing slabs at room temperature. The lasing modes were identified by measuring the polarization directions and spectral positions. The experimental results were compared with the theoretical calculations based on the three-dimensional (3D) plane-wave-expansion (PWE) method and the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method.
