Abstract

This paper suggests the way for enhancing target acquisition probability of the RF seeker of anti-ballistic defense missiles. Accurate modeling of the scattering points, the measurement of a RF seeker, in consideration of typical uncertainties of boresight error and blinking is introduced. We also show that it is possible to point the sweet spot of the ballistic target on the seeker image plane. Via full nonlinear 6-DOF simulations, we investigate the changes of scattering points according to the various approaching angles for two types of ballistic targets; blunt nose-body-tail target and the sharp nose-only target. Brief comments on trajectory shaping in midcourse phase to enhance target detection and terminal homing requirement to enhance the sweet spot estimation are provided.
