Abstract

Single-defect two-dimensional triangular photonic band gap cavity was investigated for nondegenerate monopole modes as a candidate for thersholds photonic band gap (PBG) lasers. Perfectly matched layer (PML) with finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method was used to analyze the defect modes of two dimensional PBG cavity. High Q-factor was required to make the monopole mode suitable for a laser mode and was achieved by placing the resonant frequency around the center of PBG.
