Abstract
This chapter reviews the physical or intermolecular interaction, including van der Waals interaction and hydrogen bonding. Moreover, it is transformed in the London force as a hydrophobic term, and the Debye, Keesom and hydrogen bonding as a hydrophilic term. Also covered are the concepts of acid-base interaction from Arrhenius, Brønsted-Lowry, Lewis, Pearson, and Drago's studies in terms of interface science, and especially Gutmann's approach in the hydrophilic element of excess surface free energy. Furthermore, the DLVO (Derjaguin, Landau, Verwey, and Overbeek) theory is also proposed in relation to interface science.
