Abstract

In this study, we developed a new CO2 adsorbents based on graphite oxide (GO) modified with amine groups from polyethylenimine. GO was prepared by a modified Hummers' method. An investigation of CO2 adsorption by the polyethylenimine-impregnated GO showed that the CO2 adsorption capacity increased with increasing polyethylenimine content. Polyethyleneimine increases the amount of adsorption of CO2 resulting from a chemical bond. The polyethylenimine-impregnated GO exhibited higher CO2 adsorption capacity than pristine GO. From the results, the maximum CO2 adsorption capacity and CO2/N2 selectivity were 32.89 mg g−1 and 37.13, respectively, at a polyethylenimine content of 60 wt%.
