Abstract

A group contribution technique was used to estimate the solubility parameter of (+)-catechin contained in green tea. The proposed method in this work is found to be a good predictor for the solubility of (H-)-catechin dissolved in solvents. By using the simpler equation for estimating solubility, the mole fraction (solubilities) of (+)-catechin in acetonitrile, chloroform, ethanol, and ethyl acetate were calculated. The agreement between the calculated solubilities and the experimental data was relatively good.
